Welcome to the Knitting and Crochet Study Group
Welcome to the Knitting & Crochet Group!
We are a loose gathering of experienced and wannabe knitters and crocheters with regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 1:30 to 3:30pm. As you might imagine, our group is not very equipment intense, although in the HWFA Guest House there is an interesting sock knitting machine as well as an umbrella swift skeinwinder, which winds yarn from skeins into balls nice and efficiently.
Basically, we meet and knit and natter on the porch in good weather and in an upstairs room when colder, wetter weather dictates. Patterns are swapped, advice gladly given and gladly taken, and all manner of conversational topics roamed. Our group meetings are generally very relaxing affairs.
For the last two years HWFA members who knit, but who aren’t necessarily in our group, have made many hats for Caps for Cancer, a free program helping cancer patients experiencing hair loss. In the past a number of members had fun yarn bombing: Bearnard the stuffed bear on a bicycle was covered in yarn in Hendersonville. Knitters and crocheters have also gone beyond making wearable items and come up with themed knitted centerpieces for Thanksgiving and Christmas tables, children’s toys, and other creative uses for yarn.
Well knitted items made by HWFA members (acrylic is generally avoided in favor of wool, cotton, alpaca and all the other natural yarns) are gladly accepted for sale in the Gift Shop.
Guests are welcome to come and observe our regular meetings and we’re glad to share our knowledge. There is a small fee for visitors who come for a session or two before deciding to join HWFA; alas, at the moment there is a waiting list for membership.
